What Coaching Taught Me About Trusting Yourself
Last week, I became a certified Life Coach.
It's taken me a week to sit with it, reflect and integrate. While there were countless tools, frameworks, and practice sessions throughout the program, what has stayed with me most isn't the certification.
It's a deeper understanding of what coaching is.
It Starts With Better Questions
I used to think coaching was primarily about helping people solve problems or figure out their next steps.
While that's certainly part of it, I've come to realize that great coaching isn't about having the right answers.
It's about asking better questions.
Questions that:
invite someone to pause
help them see a situation from a different perspective
gently uncover assumptions and stories they've been carrying for years
reconnect them with the vision and wisdom that's already within them.
The Answers Are Already There
Throughout the training, something became clear: beneath the overwhelm, self-doubt, overthinking, fear, and the endless noise of everyday life - people usually just need to be seen and that presence shows them that they already have all answers they need.
Sometimes those answers are
buried beneath expectations.
hidden by burnout, grief, or old stories we've come to believe.
simply drowned out by everyone else's voices.
A coach doesn't tell someone who to become or how to solve their problems. They create the space where they can see and hear themselves again.
From Awareness to Action
That realization changed everything for me.
The questions we ask matter more than the advice we give.
Curiosity opens possibilities.
Reflection creates awareness.
Awareness creates choice.
Choice creates action.
And repeated aligned action creates lasting change.
Not because someone told you what to do.
Because you discovered what was already true for you.
Coaching Isn't About Dependence
That doesn't mean coaching is passive or that clarity simply appears if we wait long enough.
Sometimes we need structure.
Sometimes we need accountability.
Sometimes we need someone to notice the patterns we can't yet see, gently challenge the beliefs keeping us stuck, and ask the one question that changes everything.
The goal is never to make someone dependent on a coach.
The goal is to help them become deeply connected to themselves.
To trust their own inner knowing.
To navigate uncertainty with confidence.
To know that even when they don't yet have the answer, they have the capacity to find it—and the courage to take the next aligned step.
The Thread That Connects Everything I Do
As I reflected this past week, I realized this isn't just what I want coaching to be. It's the thread that’s been quietly running through my life all along.
Whether I was leading strategic change in government, facilitating or negotiating difficult outcomes, creating products for Sacred Garden Botanicals, offering Reiki, or now coaching - the work has always been the same.
I help people
slow down
see more clearly
reconnect with themselves
remember that they are wiser, stronger, and more capable than they often believe
Looking Ahead
The certification marks the completion of a course, while integration marks the beginning of something deeper.
To me coaching isn’t about giving people all the answers. It’s about helping people become more sovereign - more connected to themselves, more trusting of their own wisdom, and more confident in living a life that feels deeply aligned.
If you’re feeling stuck, navigating a change, questioning what’s next, or simply looking to reconnect with yourself, I’d be honoured to walk alongside you.
Through thoughful questions, reflection, and practical action, my goal isn’t to tell you who to become - it’s to help you rediscover the person you’ve always been.
If that resonates with you, I’d love to connect.
